Winning with the sun's power
Inspiring others to develop sustainable technology isn't the easiest of tasks. However, you don't have to be Elon Musk to do so. Solar Team Twente leads by example and impresses in their own way. Their goal? Building a solar car to win the World Championship in Australia. It looks promising. At the first Solar Challenge Morocco the team already landed their first big win. They seem to be on the right track!
Lasting development
Every year 20 new students of University of Twente and Saxion take over the wheel from their predecessors. Not only do they build a groundbreaking solar car, but they also stand on the shoulders of giants. The experience of the previous team is all but lost. It is really a lot like a relay race. Both knowledge and skills from the earlier teams are passed on to the new team. So they in turn can accelerate by fine-tuning processes and applications. Solar Team Twente started with this approach back in 2005. And with every trip around the sun, the team hungers for more. And thus a lasting innovation is created.
A win-win situation
Solar Team Twente wants to show that the impossible is possible. In doing so, they set themselves and others in motion. More than 170 businesses already partnered up with the team. Their contribution focuses on technology or finances, for example. The strong bond with the University of Twente is often a reason for engineering firms to collaborate. Moreover, Solar Team Twente is an incubator for exceptional talent. Students leave the solar team with heaps of experience. Thanks to everything they have learned about engineering, including an interdisciplinary approach, their possibilities in the world are endless. That's what we call a win-win situation!
